Even Unto Death

Author's Note: Written for the Giving Thanks Challenge at the Thursdays100 LiveJournal community. This is probably not completely canonical. It has been ages since I saw this episode, so please, accept my apologies if I miswrote it.



Adam's hand shook as he signed the medical form, the smell of antiseptic and fear and dreams gone too soon, filling his nostrils.

He watched through a fog of memories, almost forgotten moments swimming across his eyes, as they turned off the machines. Slowly, her breathing became more shallow. He sat and held her hand, tears streaming unchecked over his hound-like cheeks.

She had been with him for most of his adult life. She had loved him better than he had ever imagined being loved. In her eyes, if no where else, he had been the man he had always dreamt of being.

Now, as the final breaths left her body, he spoke his heart.

“Thank you for loving me.”
