Got Game?

Author's Note: Written for the Surroundings Challenge (take three) at the Livejournal Community T100.

The ball soared through the air in a graceful arc of the purest geometry. Well, almost pure. With a sour thud, the orange and black sphere bounced off the edge of the rim. The crowd roared its disappointment.

Ed Green took a long swig of his drink, the expression of distaste marring his handsome features having little to do with the warm, cheap beer.

“Damn! Did you see that shot? Why the hell would anybody take a shot like that?!” Ed muttered disgustedly to his companion.

“What? Sorry, I wasn't watching the game. You know I'm only here for the cheerleaders,” Serena Southerlyn answered, a satisfied smile on her face as the half-time buzzer sounded and the real show began.
