Mirror, Mirror

His new assistant was a brunette. Dark hair, almost black. Dark eyes, too. Not like Serena's. He had grown so used to that disappointed, icy blue gaze that it was going to take a while to get used to these trusting pools of dark chocolate. No disillusionment in them, not yet.
Serena's eyes had flashed with arrogance, with fire. These new ones didn't flash with anything. Doubtful, hesitant, unsure. Malleable. Still a believer. In justice. Maybe even in him.
The image he had seen reflected in Serena's indigo gaze had been of a man he didn't recognize. Maybe Borgia's eyes would be a better mirror.
